There was consideration to cancel the tour because registrations were lagging. But more than 20 cars have registered and the decision was made to proceed with a smaller, more intimate tour. Join us for the fun, check out all the sights planned below for participants of this Eastern Nickel Tour....
Note also that all VMCCA eligible cars can now participate in Nickel Tours. Although the routes are designed for nickel cars, your newer collector cars 25 years old or older are also welcome on this tour.

SOME TOUR ATTRACTIONS:
ALDIE MILL
With two tandem waterwheels and fine French millstones, it still hums with activity. It is one of the best‑preserved historic mills in Virginia.
ANTIETAM BATTLEFIELD
The place which became the Bloodiest Day of the Civil War. As you crossroads through curvy hills, into the small, quiet town of Sharpsburg, it is hard to image the events of the past. The visitor center will afford you the opportunity to see what really happened here in 1862.
CAMP HARDING PARK
Named for President Warren G. Harding. Here famous visitors, "The Vagabonds" came. Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone and Henry Ford. A plaque in their honor has been placed there by The Henry Ford Heritage Foundation.
CHESAPEAKE & OHIO CANAL
Historic canal built in 1828 began as a dream of passage to western wealth. Today it endures as a national historical park - a pathway into history, nature and recreation. Stretching 184.5 miles from Georgetown to Cumberland, Maryland. A stop at one of the visitor’s center and tour of a lock house bring the past to life.
COVERED BRIDGES
Northern Frederick County in Maryland is home to three historic covered bridges.
The Utica Mills - Originally spanned the nearby Monocacy River but was washed away during a severe storm in 1889. Reconstructed to its same beauty today.
Loy's Station - First constructed in 1848. The bridge’s original timbers remain throughout the 90 foot long structure.
Roddy Road - Built in 1856, rests just north of Thurmont. A single-span Kingpost design bridge in all of its natural beauty.
CRYSTAL GROTTOES CAVERNS
This cavern has more formations per square foot than any Cave known to man.
EISENHOWER FARM- HOME - Gettysburg
There's nothing grand about its size but it does have an elegance all its own. You'll feel just like one of the many dignitaries President Eisenhower invited to this lovely place. You will feel close to the family as you tour inside and appreciate the beauty of its surroundings outside.
Built by the colony of Maryland in 1756 to protect the frontier settlers during the French and Indian War. The Fort's stone walls and two barracks have been restored to their 1758 appearance.
Has few parallels in the American drama. More than one event, one date, or one individual. It is multi‑layered, involving a diverse number of people and events. Six themes run through the town's history and all deal with a specific set of events or circumstances. Walk in the footpaths of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Brown, "Stonewall Jackson" and many others.
HARPER’S FERRY TOY TRAIN MUSEUM
The Joy Line Railroad consists of an outdoor miniature train ride. The railroad station is an original B & 0 Railroad section car house which was once located in Hagerstown MD. Here you will experience the way toy trains were once made. Small fee for a ride. Owner opening especially for our tour.
HISTORIC NATIONAL ROAD
The Road that Built the Nation. Uria Brown in 1816 traveled this road on horseback; John Deets, by freight wagon in the 1820's and 1830; William Wills by stagecoach in 1940; and RufusWilson by horse and carriage in 1902. You will travel portions of this historic road.
MIDDLEBURG, VIRGINIA
The Capital of Virginia’s scenic horse country. Middleburg offers much charm as you walk its main street of quaint boutiques and take in its history. You will immediately see evidence of the horse culture reflected in the names of the many shops. Admire the garden and gazebo dedicated to famous Middleburg resident and first lady, Jackie Kennedy .
This 1,000 acre estate was the home of World War I Virginia Governor Westmoreland Davis. Travel through time in the Winmill Carriage Collection and more.
RURAL HERITAGE MUSEUM
Twenty-six exhibit areas depict early rural life in Washington County; an early Conestoga wagon which traveled the National Road from Baltimore to Wheeling.
SHEPHERDSTOWN WV
Oldest town in West Virginia. Birthplace of the steamboat. It is a small college town, perched on a bluff overlooking the Potomac. A stroll through town reveals a mixed collection of beautifully maintained old homes, some predating the Revolution. Main Street offers quaint shops. A must to see is the Smallest House in measuring 10'high by 9' wide and 5 'ceilings. Open special for this tour. Second must is James Rumsey monument, inventor of the steamboat. Lunch on Tuesday will be at the beautiful Bavarian Inn overlooking the Potomac River.
TOWN OF BURKITTSVILLE
The few residents of Burkittsville lead their lives surrounded by beauty and nature. A brick street still remains in town square. You will want to travel extra slow as you go through this small town. This small town makes history at Halloween when “ghosts” are suppose to be prevalent and newsmen come out to report the findings.
TOWN OF BOONSBORO-KEEDYVILLE
Home to best selling author, Nora Roberts. You will have the opportunity to meet her in person at Turn of the Page Bookstore.
TOWN OF THURMONT
Camp David Museum ‑Walk through the history of the Presidential Retreat from its inception as Shangri‑La in 1942 through the current administration. Lunch will be at The Cozy Inn which is the oldest family owned restaurant in the state of Maryland. Over the past 76 years, the Cozy Inn has hosted Presidents, cabinet members, foreign delegations and press corps.
TOWN OF HILLSBORO
This town in Virginia invites you to enjoy a million dollar view of the Blue Ridge Mountains and adjoining valleys. The newest building in this small town was constructed in 1893 and maintains considerable charm. A stop at nearby wineries will be optional.
TOWN OF PURCELLVILLE
In this historic town of Virginia, you will find many antique shops and one of the oldest hardware stores in the country, Nichols Hardware.
WASHINGTON MONUMENT
Visit the first monument completed in memory of George Washington, built in one day by citizens of the town of Boonsboro. The museum at the top of the mountain will be worth the stop along with the 5-7 minute walk to the monument.
WHITE’S FERRY
In operation since 1786, White’s Ferry is the last working ferry on the Potomac River. A widely used means of crossing the river (and a shortcut) between Maryland and Virginia since its inception. You will cross the Potomac River on the Gen. Jubal Early. $4.00 fee will be collected at time of crossing.
WILSON’S GENERAL STORE - ONE ROOM SCHOOLHOUSE
This restored store and schoolhouse was built in the 1840's. Offers everything from hardware, feed, flour, cornmeal and yard goods. The one room school built in 1855 by Rufus Wilson for the education of his son. Today, the school looks as though the Wilson pupils just went to recess and never returned.

The tour day for Virginia will be extra long.
