The Chrome Glidden Tour

For Cars Built in 1935 Through 1981

 

 

                Horseheads, New York -- The Veteran Motor Car Club of America announces that its 2006 Chrome GliddenTour is scheduled for June 23-28, 2006.  The tour is open to all makes and models of cars built in 1935 through 1981.   A five-day hub tour, it will be headquartered in Horseheads, NY, and is designed to bring the thrill of the Glidden experience to owners of more recent vintage cars.  This tour will be a slow paced, relaxed tour, primarily on back roads through some of the prettiest country in the United States.  We will be visiting the Corning Museum of Glass, Sapsucker Woods (Cornell University's Lab of Ornithology), National War Plane and Soaring museums, and have lunch and take a lap around the Watkins International Raceway. A luncheon cruise on one of New York's Finger Lakes will take us out of our cars for a few hours.  Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon will be our destination later in the week.  A bar-b-q at Turkey Trot Acres, the Northeast's Premier Hunting Lodge, will complete our week of travel.

VMCCA hosts 61st Annual AAA Glidden Tour Revival

 

                     Veteran Motor Car Club of America Announces

61st Annual Revival AAA Glidden Tour, September 17-22, 2006

 

o        Rapid City, SD – The Veteran Motor Car Club of America hosts several major events and tours each year for its membership. The premier touring event is the AAA Glidden Revival Tour, sponsored in alternate years by the Veteran Motor Car Club of America and The Antique Automobile Club of America. This year the VMCCA is the sponsoring club. Since 20002 the Automobile Club of America has been the co-sponsor of the event.

o        This year, the Glidden Tour will be held Sep. 17-22 in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Registration forms will be available at www.VMCCA.org after June 1. The event registrar is Joan Lemer, 605-255-4659, lemer@mt-rushmore.net.

o        The host hotel is the Best Western Ramkota, Rapid City, SD, 605-343-8550

o        Registration is limited to 200 cars, built in 1942 or earlier

o        Tour destinations include Rapid City, Deadwood, Mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Hot Springs, Badlands National Park and more.

Obituary from Dick and Jane Rigby, January 13,  2006:

We received word a couple of hours ago of the passing of George Kanaan and thought you might like to post it on our website as many, many people knew George.

George died Tuesday at a hospital in Berea, OH.  Services will be held in Berea on Saturday.  Those wishing may make contributions to the Berea Rotary Club, P.O. Box 55, Berea, OH 44017.  George was a long time member of VMCCA and was Publications VP and did The Bulb Horn for 19 years.

Veteran Motor Car Club of America Announces it’s event and tour schedule for 2006

 

Phoenix, AZ – The Veteran Motor Car Club of America hosts several major events and tours each year for its members. Many are focused on specific vintages of cars. These events are in addition to the many regional and chapter events and tours held year around throughout the country. The following is the 2006 schedule of national events.

The Eastern Nickel Vintage Tour

For Cars Built in or Before 1934

 

                Mount Dora, Florida -- The Veteran Motor Car Club of America announces that there is space remaining on its 2005 Eastern Nickel Vintage Tour.     Scheduled for October 24-28, the tour is open to all makes and models of cars built in or before 1934.   Tour destinations include Polk City and  Fantasy of Flight featuring WWI and WWII aircraft and antique planes, Homosassa Springs with it’s spectacular nature park, Ocala and the Don Garlits' car museum, and to Zellwood for a plantation lunch.  A hub tour called “The Orange Blossom Nickel Tour,” the tour is headquartered in Mount Dora, Florida, with day trips scheduled to destinations in central Florida.  The host hotel is Mount Dora’s 125 year old Lakeside Inn  on Lake Dora, a true time warp from the past.

Kanab, Utah -- The Veteran Motor Car Club of America announces that there is limited space remaining on its 2005 Western Nickel Vintage Tour. Scheduled for August 28-September 2, the tour is open to all makes and models of cars built in or before 1934. Tour destinations include five national parks -- Grand Canyon North Rim, overlooking the Painted Desert's beautiful vistas; Zion, with its dramatic landscape of sculptured canyons; Bryce Canyon, with fascinating limestone formations; Cedar Breaks , with breathtaking views of its 2000-ft canyon; and Grand Staircase, with rugged rock formations.

 

A hub tour called "Kanab Kapers," the tour is headquartered in Kanab, Utah, with day trips scheduled to each national park. The tour is hosted by the VMCCA Copper Classics Chapter in Utah. Tour participants may register online on the website, www.vmcca.org, depending on remaining space available. Tour participants must be members of Veteran Motor Car Club of America.
