There are many good reasons to join VMCCA. Here are a few of them:
Tours
Touring in antique cars has been the focus of The Veteran Motor Car Club of America since its inception. You must be a VMCCA member to participate in the numerous car tours sponsored throughout the year for cars of every age. National tours for early cars include the famous Glidden Tour, a revival of the historic reliability run, 1 and 2 Cylinder Tour, Nickel and Vintage Era Tours, and Transcontinental Tour. Owners of newer collector cars will especially enjoy the Chrome Glidden Tour and Western National Tour. Most of VMCCA's tours include days for traditional judging and car shows, but our principal emphasis is on driving our old cars over public roads to visit local sites of interest. In addition, the regions and their chapter sponsor many interesting, memorable, and fun-filled local tours. Look here for a listing of some of this year's tours.
The Bulb Horn
The Bulb Horn is the official bi-monthly publication of The Veteran Motor Car Club of America. It has been judged Best National Club Magazine for many years in a row by one of the commercial car hobby magazines. Each issue presents fascinating reports on national, regional, and chapter events and serves as the communication link between the governing board of the club and its membership. There are also many feature and technical articles on the restoration of members' vehicles and the history of the automobile. A classified advertising section is provided free of charge to members and display advertising promotes club activities and aids in the acquisition, operation, and restoration of your vehicle.
Awards
Awards are presented on the national level through the VMCCA's judging program. Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards are given to outstanding vehicles owned by members which are judged at designated national meets or tours. Judging is based on appearance, performance, and preservation with an emphasis on authenticity. Other annual awards are given by the national club for specific excellent cars and individual members making outstanding contributions to the club. Many local chapters present awards as well.
Camaraderie
No words can describe the pleasure of being affiliated with the finest group of old car enthusiasts in the world. Yes, we mean "world" because VMCCA is international in its scope with members in all 50 states of the United States of America, Canada, Spain, England, France, and New Zealand. Through the club you'll meet many new friends and their families. Their knowledge and experience is a valuable resource, and they're always willing to help with a restoration project or club event. You will find that other VMCCA members share an interest in everything from new products to tried and true restoration techniques and from local legislative developments to discoveries of sources for parts and cars and upcoming old car events. Participation by members in all levels of club activities is encouraged. All active members and their spouses have full voting privileges and can be club officers.
Insurance
Insurance coverage for antique car events has become a vital concern. All members of the VMCCA are protected by our national club liability policy which covers scheduled national, regional, and chapter events. This policy protects all members against suits which may be filed against the membership as a whole as a result of a mishap at any national, regional, or chapter event if that activity were to suffer a liability lawsuit. This type of coverage is very expensive and almost impossible for an independent club to obtain. This policy is not a replacement for your individual insurance on the antique vehicles you own.
Regions and Chapters
Benefits of membership are numerous in the VMCCA on a national level. The club is divided geographically into regions which are made up of local chapters. Affiliating with a local chapter will give you the maximum benefit from your membership. A membership in the national VMCCA provides you with entry into any of the regions and their chapters, so you can become active on a local basis and enjoy the advantages of your hobby near home. The VMCCA has chapters throughout the United States and many international members; but if no chapter exists near you, any five national members can present a petition to form a new chapter.
